Holiday Hugs and Best Wishes

So many blessings to be thankful for this holiday season as we chill out Miami style with family and friends.
May you all spend quality time with your loved ones, and may we all savor the conversations, the hugs and kisses more than we do the gifts.
Cheers to an amazing Christmas.

Bachelor Pad - Part Two Kitchen

So what do you think happened once we transformed our bachelor's living room from frumpy to swanky?
The kitchen, with it's all white everything - walls, ceiling, cabinets and appliances - became a glaring eye sore. Our original plan was to wait a few months to tackle this space but Mr. Bachelor had been bitten by the design bug. No, no, no, he said, let's just tackle it now. Alrighty then sir. Let's do this I said. This is where we started:

There was no budget for a major gut job, and as much as I love to rip things out to renovate kitchens, there was no need for that here. The white cabinets were in great shape and just needed some sexier companions.
The existing cabinet handles were too small, so new handles were a quick fix.  Since he's rarely home, it means he rarely cooks and so there were some empty cabinets that we decided to convert into wine racks.

Because seriously people, propping a wine rack atop a random table in your living room does not a bar cart make. We clearly needed a solution and thank goodness we found one.

The fabulous Shaggy again worked his magic as he did here for our bachelorette Jina - hmm, should these two meet? We removed the cabinet doors on either side of the microwave, and installed wine lattice to create the racks, which now fits over 30 bottles. Partyyyyy...To further soften up all the white, we painted the ceiling in this color and replaced that pesky white light fixture with six recessed lights - on dimmers of course. Lighting my peeps, is the key to great design. Always, always splurge a little, if you can, to upgrade your lights and place them on dimmers to control the mood.

Hello eating area. Thanks to the mammoth loveseat that once suffocated this area, Mr. Bachelor had never once eaten a meal at this area. It had simply become a place to stash mail and other chotskies but no more. Let the fine dining begin, while seated atop these new white leather bar stools

With a new place to sit, eat and entertain, the sink and leaky faucet became another eye sore. *Sidenote: why do I always forgot to remove my purse/suitcase from these before pictures??? Lord help me.

We updated the sink and faucet with a modern double sink and a very sleek faucet.

Before this transformation, he had no idea what a backsplash was. He's now a huge fan of this simple upgrade of a glass tile backsplash. We did splurge a bit on these new appliances and included a double oven (I love these new options) since the smaller oven was a great way to prepare a quick meal aka a pizza, and free up much needed space on the counter top for the important things like a Keurig coffee maker.

That's all folks. A somewhat brand new kitchen for our favorite bachelor.

Thursday we'll step outside and check out to his new balcony, which is now kind of a fab space to chill and enjoy these cool Miami nights.

NBA Champions. Again.

I'm a little bleary-eyed this morning. No one in Miami has slept. We can blame The Miami Heat for that since they delivered yet another championship to the city. I bit my nails to pieces in one of the most stressful games I've ever watched. But in the end, it was all worth it. The Heat haters have been silenced or in the words of Bron, Bron himself, "I ain't got no worries."
Amen. That is all.

Kudos to San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich for this amazing show of sportsmanship as he hugged the Miami Heat players after the win.

A Black and White Summer Affair

Black and White Summer

Black and White Summer by pretty-little-things featuring green high heels

Yes, yes, black and white stripes are all the rage this summer. Yours truly even rocked an ensemble at a reggae concert last month. I mean, I gotta stay on trend right?

Well, since we're more about home design than fashion trends around here, of course this means we have to lust after some designs that really rocked out this trend. Let's go.

I could get a LOT of work done in this cozy little office for sure. How genius was that pop of yellow?

So many fun elements in this room. First, making that striped technique look flawless on a wall with an arch and a built-in? Genius. Then there's a quirky art to balance out all those lines, the bar cart, the marble top tulip table. Can you tell that I really, really love this space?

I love the natural wood here against the starkness of the black and white walls, and hello? Those purple feathers? Amazing touch of whimsy. I'd definitely chill out for a bit that foyer.

Okay, seriously, would you even make it up these stairs? I'd kinda just hang out there for a while because who the hell knew a carpet runner could be so freaking fab and fun? Fabulously juxtaposed with that green and white wallpaper no less. And since I'd be having too much fun here, I'd simply have a seat and read me a book no? I likes this stairway. A lot.

I love both these bedrooms for the same reason. They have the bold element of stripes and yet they feel insanely serene and fun (skateboards on the wall? loves)

The trick to using stripes successfully in design is balance, and I think these designers did a great job of achieving  that balance in many ways. Are you living with stripes? Dying to try it or simply over this striped phase? Holla.

p.s. It's gonna be a long night for those of us in Miami and San Antonio. Game 7 of the NBA finals is tonight. It's about to be bananas, especially as all of Miami gets their pots and pans ready to make a whole lot a noise.
Bring it! Let's go Heat!

p.p.s
This broke my heart this morning. I LOVED the Sopranos, especially Tony. RIP James Gandolfini.

I'm Feeling Like a W

I think we should have a day off in the middle of the week more often. What say you? For those still recovering from the July 4th holiday, you might need at least two, trust me I feel your pain. Maybe a little hotel eye candy might help. Since Miami is considered one of the best destinations for beach frolicking and a no-holds-barred nightlife, it's understandable that most visitors might not think twice about their hotel surroundings when booking their beach vacation. But just one look at the W South Beach and you will definitely think twice about just finding any old place with a bed.  The W Sobe mixes Yabu Pushelberg's design aesthetic of Italian marble, pony hair rugs and leather armchairs, with Anna Busta's bronze screened lobby for a result that feels like a chicly designed contemporary home instead of a stuffy hotel. Take a peek and you'll see what I mean.

Does it give you that homey vibe? Assuming of course that this is your design aesthetic. Or do you get a totally opposite feeling? What are your hotel must haves when booking a vacation? Have a safe and restful weekend. See you on the flip side.

xoxo
Debbie.

P.S. We were in no way compensated for this post. We simply believe in sharing our cool finds.
