In Living Color

I've had a love affair with bright colors all my life. Blame it on my island upbringing where color surrounds you in the simple, everyday things of life - all year long. The bold splash of orange on a mango, the bright yellow of the ackee fruit, the green skin of plantains and of course, the vibrant blues of our beaches.
Let's just say that in my 10-plus years of designing homes and events, I can count the neutral spaces I've done on two fingers.

So, I was thrilled and equally humbled when Sherwin Williams - my go to paint for design projects - noticed my designs around the web and asked if they could feature me and my colorful projects in their magazine, Stir.
Er, sure thing.

You can check out the feature in the latest issue of Stir and hear me chat a bit about my colorful adventures in selecting paint with clients. Thanks to clients who have allowed me to color their world, just a tad bit.

A Feature in My Hometown Newspaper

I was a baby who cried non-stop. I mean, all day/night for no obvious reason. My antics are so legendary that whenever I run into someone who knew me as a baby, the first thing they'll say to me is  "Lawd, little girl, we thought you'd be a singer! You cried soooooooooo much." Translation: You would never shut up!
The only thing that would silence me was a stack of newspapers. How ironic that I became a newspaper reporter. The irony continued yesterday when I was featured in one of my hometown newspapers, the Jamaica Observer.
To share the journey of my years growing up in Jamaica, the struggles I had as an immigrant when I first moved to New York, and my sojourn from journalism to design, was an honor of epic proportions for me. In one final irony, the feature came about because unbeknown to be, the writer was a follower of this blog! Never underestimate the opportunities that can come about from the blogosphere.
Thanks Debbie for being an awesome blogging partner.
And thanks Cecile, for turning a young girl's dreams into a grown up reality. Eternally honored and humbled.

Whoa! A Magazine Feature

Whoa, whoa, whoa, that's yours truly featured in this month's issue of one of Miami's premier magazines: Brickell/Key Biscayne Magazine.

I'm still giddy about the feature. Chatting about the design business alongside some of the city's well known designers is a major highlight of the year. Can't explain how humbled I am to have been selected and for all the great blessings that have come our way this year. Check out the feature and see what else is happening in Miami's design scene in the Design Minds section of the mag.

The magazine's November issue.

In other news, it's Debbie's birthday today! She thought I forgot, hehe. She's all of 21 (in her mind) so be sure to wish her happy birthday.
It's also the lil man's birthday on Sunday and my head is seriously spinning.  A year old? WTH? Can't believe how much he's grown. Next he'll be driving my car and telling me deuces as he heads out to the club! Lord help me. TGIF guys and here's to a fab weekend.

Design Shuffle Feature - Hot off the Presses

One of our favorite design projects is being featured on Design Shuffle, one of the top sources for designers and design junkies. We couldn't be more thrilled.
Interestingly enough, what we considered a very demure room - yellows and greys - has drawn quite the mixed reaction from the Design Shuffle readers. Who knew yellow could evoke such strong feelings?

Check out the feature, and the fiery discussions on their Facebook page, and be sure to share your thoughts as well.

You'll also learn more about our client, the design process and discover what a great resource Design Shuffle is as well.
